Moderna Museet has a close tie with the American art scene. Since the early 1960s, Moderna Museet has introduced American artists such as Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Ed Kienholz and Walter de Maria to the European public. A natural result of this transatlantic exchange was the founding of the American Friends of the Moderna Museet with the aim of promoting the activities of Moderna Museet. The American Friends of Moderna Museet helps the Museum acquire American modern and contemporary art. As a public charity, the foundation enables American patrons and donors to make tax-deductible gifts in the USA.
