- About the work
Sigurdur Gudmundsson calls his photographs “situations”. The artist himself is the main protagonist in these situations, which can be about exploring things he is unfamiliar with, or finding his way, or a longing to be somewhere else. Although there is often a comical element, the undertone is serious, not to say melancholy. “The impulse to create art comes from life itself, the ebb and flow, rain and sun, day and night, love and sorrow,” says Gudmundsson. Nature and the earth are recurring reference points in his works. In rendez-vous, the artist measures himself against the horizon.
