About the artworkHelene Schjerfbeck was a bit of an outsider. After studying in Paris, she chose a secluded life in the Finnish countryside. Her art developed from an impressionist rendering of light, towards a modernist, more minimalist style. In "Girl Figure" she uses a few fields of clear pastel tones to produce a peaceful, contemplative atmosphere.
