About the artworkThe blue sky and the plant that the boy gazes at with serious eyes brings spring light and resurrection to mind. The boy is naked, as if to emphasize the link between child and nature. This is not a portrait in the usual sense, but a metaphor for budding life. Karl Isakson spent most of his adult life in Copenhagen. He explored a small number of motifs throughout his career: portraits, landscapes, nudes, still-lifes and mythological and Norse scenes, all displaying his passionate exploration of colour. His oeuvre was seminal to the Gothenburg colourists in Sweden, and to the Bornholm school of painters in Denmark.
