About the artworkAlbin Amelin's Miscarriage is a social allegory. The foetus is torn from the woman who lies writhing in agony alone in the backyard of some industrial town. The black smoke from the chimney is shaped into hands that grab the foetus. Is it the brutal capitalist, the factory owner, who takes a vice-like hold on his subjects and forces them into the cogwheels of production before they are even born? Amelin's political convictions may be obvious, but there is always something in his art that goes beyond over-explicit moralising and gives the viewer the dual feeling of uncomfortable voyeurism and of being an enlightened person.
