About the artwork
Everything has been carefully prepared. A sheet of photographic paper, the same size as a human body, has been laid out on the floor. The light is directed towards the space where a new work of art is about to be born. During the performance that will result in an Honest Portrait, Diana Agunbiade-Kolawole is focused entirely on the sensations of her body. Her naked skin is covered in developing fluid. When she presses herself against the surface of the paper, an image appears, one that like our transient bodies, will age and change with time. The physical laws that govern the decomposition of both humans and works of art transform everything into basic elements that live on forever.
