About the artworkAnna Linder’s work stresses the importance of visualising different family structures, based on experiences of involuntary childlessness. This is an image of community, which also seems to be broken into facets, where several lives overlap in order to give rise to new life. Like every individual in the film has made their mark, the different materials add character, when the respective materialities of analogue film and textile meet.  Super 8 is a type of film that was used for home movies, with a camera that gets up close. The feeling in the prints resembles experimental films from the 1970s and 1980s. Anna Linder explores periphery, interpersonal relations and the work of the hand in moving images, installations and performance. In Spermwhore, she portrays queer experiences using a collective process.
Description Anna Linders film lyfter nödvändigheten av att öppna för och synliggöra olika former av familjebildning. En personligt hållen skildring som tar avstamp i smärtsam erfarenhet av ofrivillig barnlöshet. Det är en bild uppbrutet i facetter, där fleras liv går in i varandras för att nytt liv ska bli till – men också ett tätt sammanflätat familjeporträtt. Liksom varje individ i filmen sätter sin prägel, tillför de olika materialen karaktär. Super 8 är en typ av film som använts för hemmabruk, en ofta handhållen kamera som kommer nära. Känslan i bilden kopplar även tillbaka till 1970- och 1980-talens experimentfilm. Den analoga filmens materialitet möter här textilens - i sömmar som löper genom filmremsan och binder samman eller stansar flimrande sår i den mörka bilden. Eller lagren av tyg som varsamt slås om den samlade familjen i skyddande hinnor. Den specialskrivna musiken med de medverkandes egna texter ger en ytterligare dimension. Anna Linder är filmskapare, konstnär och curator. Hon intresserar sig för processer, periferi, mellanmänskliga relationer och handens arbete i verk som tar sig uttryck i rörlig bild, installationer eller performance. I Spermahoran skildrar hon queer erfarenhet bortom en föregiven heteronormativ ordning, och utifrån en kollektiv process. Anna Linder’s film highlights the necessity of opening up for and making visible various ways of forming families. This is a portrayal based on personal history whose starting point is the painful experience of involuntary childlessness. The image created is fractured into facets in which the lives of several people intersect in order for a new life to come into being – but also provides a close-knit family portrait. Just as every individual in the film makes his or her mark, the various materials used add character of their own. Super 8 is a kind of film for domestic use and often employed in a hand-held camera that moves in close. The feeling evoked by the image also harks back to the experimental films of the 1970s and 1980s. Here the materiality of analogue film juxtaposes that of textile, in the seams that run through the film strip and either bind up or punch flickering wounds into the darkened image. Or the layers of cloth that are carefully wound around the family in protective veils. The soundtrack with lyrics by the participants themselves adds another dimension. Anna Linder is a filmmaker, artist and curator. She is interested in processes, the periphery, interpersonal relationships and manual work that find expression in moving images, installations or performance. In Spermwhore she depicts a form of queer experience that transcends a hetero-normative order, through a collective process.
