About the artworkWhereas a fundamental
principle of the museum is to preserve and elevate objects, Adrián Villar
Rojas’ works in organic materials can grow, change and disintegrate. Los
Teatros de Saturno III is a large collection of strange objects
metamorphically transposed in a way that counteracts the notion of a finished
work. Time is essential throughout Villar Rojas’ practice, this sculpture could
even be seen as a film. The monumental scale of the installation might be a
reference to the impossibility of gaining an overview and to the fact that many
people find cultural institutions to be inaccessible. The collective production
process adds an ideological dimension to the works, which often consist of "low",
perishable materials. The artist has compared his artistic practice
to a virus, one that lives in and
feeds off the world of art.
