About the artworkA collage of hair, tape and paper greets the viewer in this work. At first glance, the pages of the book resemble a text written in Braille, but closer inspection reveals that the surface of the tape is smooth and contains no legible information in the traditional sense. Instead, it evokes the sense that the text is to be understood by touch. The textures and colours of the different hair strands suggest stories without revealing specific details. Yoko Ono challenges the dominance of visual language, focusing instead on the tactile senses. By creating poetry without words, the work invites the viewer to generate meaning for themselves, beyond the boundaries of written language.
