Eija-Liisa Ahtila lives and works in Helsinki. Ever since her breakthrough in the 1990s, she has been a pioneer of cinematic installation, often using multiple projections for her works. Ahtila’s practice is situated in a borderland – challenging cinematic conventions and overturning habitual perspectives. Her fascination for film as a technique and medium permeates Ahtila’s entire artistic output. She twists and turns the touchstones of film, playing with the traditional cinematic narrative. Recurring themes in Ahtila’s work is human relationships, the mind and perception.
