About the artworkBeth Laurin is one of Sweden’s most idiosyncratic sculptors. In her highly interdisciplinary practice, which developed in dialogue with the feminist movements of the 1960s and 1970s, she uses found objects and personal materials to produce emotional resonances and affective associations. Describing her style as "sub-realism", she is looking for "a form that is an emotional state – an emotional state that is a form." In Untitled, Laurin uses rope to represent the upward growth of a plant, or perhaps the imminent attack of a cobra snake. Between this sensation of tender beauty and looming danger lies the sculpture’s true emotional potential.
