About the artworkThe Toys belongs to a series of paintings by the Catalonian artist Joan Miró, where the subjects are drawn on the canvas, with a sparse addition of colour accents. The rocking horse - with its precarious perspective - expresses both playfulness and sternness. Together with the conical "tree", the "dice" and the "balls", it forms a poetic still-life. Joan Miró was a close friend of Picasso. After a short period as a cubist, he developed a new style in the early-1920s as a conscious, radical effort. He was eager to experiment and make new discoveries Selected exhibition history Supersurrealismen (den 29 september 2012 - den 27 januari 2013) Moderna Museet Malmö Ny presentation av samlingen (2000-2002) Moderna Museet, Stockholm Joan Miró: skapare av nya världar (1998) Moderna Museet, Stockholm Mästerverken åter.
