About the artworkThe work is the result of an eleven-year project, completed in 2006, during which time Magnus Bärtås collected newspaper pictures of people who had publicly complained about being badly treated. Using a lit candle he dripped wax onto the images and by imprint created these floating and fragile portraits. The adjacent texts relate the individual stories. During the process Bärtås asked himself whether complaints from the public are an indicator of the well-being of a society. How do you gauge a feeling such as disappointment? And why do they fight so much in ice hockey?
