About the artwork"Structurally Rationalised Sunset", "Landscape Trying to Adjust to Norms and Ideals". Enno Hallek's titles are telling. Many works comment on the balance between technology and ecology, nature and modern-day culture. When he "grafts" branches onto standardised pine poles he approaches arte povera, the movement that emerged out of an increasingly destabilised political and cultural climate in Italy in the 1960s. The arte povera artists ignored the boundaries between abstract and figurative art, and moved between unprocessed materials and objects from consumer society. The process and the experimental use of materials were the main focus. In the same spirit, Hallek's "grafts" attain their potency through the transformation of materials.
