About the artworkSoft, bulging shapes are subjected to tight leather straps. The surface is varnished and shiny, the colours span from soft grey to a sickly yellow. Olle Kåks's sculpture is playful and menacing at the same time. The shapes appear both childish and tangibly adult. They evoke associations to a tied-up body, where someone has made a brutal attempt to dominate the organic. Olle Kåks was primarily a painter, but started working across disciplinary boundaries at an eary stage. Change through Violence was shown at his first exhibition at Galerie Aronowitsch, Stockholm, in 1966. Kåks fills his image world with signs, metaphors and puzzles. Art, to him, becomes an element in the conflict between the self and the surroundings, between private and public space.
