About the artworkLars Englund's works often encompass the tension between warm sensualism and cool precision. He started his career as a concretist painter in the 1950s, but soon moved on to casting in concrete and plastic. Englund's generation of artists succeeded in launching a non-figurative imagery for the urban environment. He realised that if the artistic basic shape is created with precision it is easy to repeat and vary, and also to transfer into a monumental format. In the 1960s and 1970s, Englund created a few of his seminal works in the public domain: the heating plant in Ålidhem, Umeå, the ventilation tower and facade units for the police headquarters in Kungsholmen, Stockholm, and, not to forget - the Swedish one krona coin minted in 1974.
