About the artwork
Hans Malmberg had a long and prosperous career in press photography and photo journalism. He travelled the world as a freelancer, mainly for the illustrated magazine Se throughout most of the 1950s, and later for the Co-operative Union’s magazine Vi. His books cover subjects such as Swedish parishes, Dalälven river, Iceland, and “The Wonderful Adventures of Nils”, Selma Lagerlöf’s epic story for early-20th century school children. One of his most famous photo journalistic essays is from the Korean war in 1950, chronicling the lives of American soldiers and the suffering of the local population. In 1958, Malmberg joined the group Tio fotografer, one of Sweden’s most renowned photographer collectives with a shared studio in Stockholm.
