About the artworkWilliam Kentridge (b. 1955) is known for his hand-drawn animations. He uses a technique in which he meticulously draws, erases and then continues to draw. As the subject changes, Kentridge records the process with a camera, and the photographs are then projected as a moving image. This work is a homage to the French film pioneer Georges Méliès.
