About the artworkThe collection of negatives left by Anna Riwkin includes a few pictures taken in Paris in 1933. Among these is this portrait of the surrealist artist group. Over the years, this photo has been published in many international books without any reference to the photographer. Anna Riwkin's brother, Josef Riwkin, and the writer Gunnar Ekelöf jointly published a book on French surrealism in 1933. It is possible that the photo was intended as an illustration for that publication. Salvador Dalí, who is in the photo, was working on his painting "The Enigma of William Tell" that year - a work that was acquired by Moderna Museet in 1967.
