About the artworkIn the late 1960s, Barbro Bäckström explored wavy shapes in drawings and three-dimensional works. Like sinus curves or graphically reinterpreted cavities they billow organically and presage her well-known bodies sculpted in wire netting. Barbro Bäckström's works manage to combine traces of intimacy and general human physical perceptions with monumentality. Folded II is a model for a monumental work cast in bronze. Seated on the plinth and leaning against the sculpture, your back fits perfectly into one of the folds. Barbro Bäckström created a large number of works for public spaces in Sweden, and also in the UK and Switzerland in her lifetime. Her works can be seen in nursing homes, railway stations, embassies and school grounds.
