About the artwork”The Clouds Between Us is the last stage in a linguistic dream,” says Torsten Andersson. “In The Clouds Between Us I use a detached realistic language to visualise an abstract shape.” The painting was created in connection with an exhibition where the artist showed abstract sculptures and “their realistic portraits”. It incorporates multiple spatial perceptions and approaches to concepts such as abstraction and realism. Many experienced the 1960s to be a dead end, full of predictable styles – informal painting, pop art and so on. Some experimented with film and performance. Andersson moved in the opposite direction. He took a long break from painting, and he then returned to resurrect easel painting and to develop his own idiom.
