About the artwork1927 was a year of great productivity and change for Miró. When the year began, his paintings were colorful, but by the end he was often painting directly on an unprimed canvas. References to people, objects, and space became increasingly concise—a dot here and a line there were enough. He also found a new way to use simple means to link the elements of the picture together that relied on the observer’s ability to perceive the relationships between objects in space without the help of clues from the artist. Against the bold red color of The Red Figure we see a creature with human facial features.
