About the artworkTracy Moffatt’s photographs are composed as film scenes and feature violence, oppression, squalor and strong feelings. To this she adds her own memories from growing up in Brisbane, Australia, as a girl and an Aboriginal Australian. Something More from 1989 was her major breakthrough. This work consists of nine parts, introducing us to a rural girl of mixed origin, who is fighting for a better life. It was inspired by soaps, American movies and other material from popular culture. The artist has chosen to express herself in film, video and stills. Her works often reference art and photo history, her own childhood, addressing issues of ethnicity, gender, sexuality and identity.
