About the artworkSven X-et Erixson was a lyricist in colour and form. In spring 1931, he travelled to Telemark in Norway. The countryside and the people inspired him to make several paintings, including Dance Hall in Telemark. The violinist has only managed to entice two couples to step onto the dance floor. Soon, others may join them, because a man further into the picture is just asking a woman in white to dance. The other guests are seated along the walls, watching. There is something awkward about the scene. For the naive painters, creating this impression was an intentional artistic approach.
