About the artworkFig trees and acacias; stairs, walled-in vineyards, a fountain - and people shopping or just resting. A detailed chronicle, painted in a bird's-eye perspective - yet the composition is strongly held together. Linnqvist came to Chinon in the Loire Valley in central France in 1921. It was the hottest summer in 45 years. He made hundreds of drawings of the scene and completed the painting after his return to Stockholm. Despite the format, this painting can be studied at close range. The naive style allows the artist to freely emphasise the features he wants to draw attention to.
