About the artworkIvan Aguéli was a painter, anarchist and religious theoretician - an eccentric in Swedish art history. His paintings are often small, and the motifs are intimate and serene, regardless of whether they portray Gotland or North Africa. In "Motif from Visby I" the lines tracing the landscape and the sky billow decoratively. The influence of symbolism is obvious in the interplay of the surfaces, where everything appears to be part of a larger whole
