About the artworkSven Jonsson’s art reflects the interwar period’s
fear of a new world war through a series of dreamlike and unfathomable visions of a fictional world
in ruins. Jonsson’s landscapes are bleak, with vast
horizons and long shadows. His surrealist imagery
is characterised by architectural elements that
create spaces that are both open and closed at the
same time. By avoiding sharp lines and instead
creating fields with varying degrees of blackness,
the shadows and shapes of the buildings become
deceptively similar, reinforcing the dreamlike and
fleeting. The title Yet Another Morning can be interpreted
as referring to yet another day filled with
the same horrors as yesterday – or does it suggest
the possibility of waking up to a new morning
where the world might actually change?
