About the artworkCecilia Edefalk often paints serially, repeating the same motif until it is pointless to speak of original and copy. The 1980s saw a renaissance for painting,on postmodernist grounds. Art was no longer abstract or emotionally expressive, but conceptual and even figurative. Edefalk was often categorised as postmodern. Her series Another Movement is described by the artist as seven paintings of different sizes, each based on the same original: an advert from a women’s magazine, with a man rubbing sun lotion on a woman’s back. She altered this motif to emphasise what she saw as its specific tension. The bottle with lotion is no longer present. The stiff, square figures stand out clearly against the intensely blue, uniform background.
