About the artworkThe hexagonal building appears in many of K.G. Nilsson's works. Sometimes it stands on richly coloured maps of land or coastal regions. In The Building Site it is being built, but the basic shape appears to be completed. To K.G. Nilsson, the building, which resembles a church or a primitive hut, represents colonisation, conquering of land and civilisation. It also stands for the fundamental security and integrity of the individual. His work charts both familiar and unfamiliar territory. "My art is a personal comment on the experience of time and space: fears, hopes and modest wishes. A reduction and calibrating of the expressive means are the necessary tools." This is how K.G. Nilsson describes his works both from the 1970s and today.
