About the artworkEinar Höste entices strict geometry to bring forth numerous vertiginous possibilities. Early in his career he developed a fascination for creating spaces, and was one of the few Swedish artists to appear in the exhibitions Movement in Art and Inner and Outer Space at Moderna Museet in the 1960s. Höste does not present an image to the spectator. Instead, he strives to engulf the spectator. In his Stimulus-Free Space from 1970 viewers were seated in a chair and inserted into an orb. The ambition was to create a room that was expressive but devoid of conventional stimuli. The Cube from 1969 can be linked to his work on the concept of an infinite wall. Here he challenges the idea that a room is limited by six flat, impenetrable surfaces. Please, push the button!
