About the artworkAt first, the installation Earthquake resembles an abandoned office, but it soon transforms into a continuous “looped” earthquake. The piece is a direct reference to the 1974 disaster film of the same name. By blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction, control and collapse, it creates an illusory sense of chaos amidst everyday life. Using moving sculptures and installations, Peter Geschwind developed a unique way of creating “reality animations”, where sound and light are employed to produce moving images of objects in physical space. Similar to the artistic technique of trompe l'oeil, which means “deceives the eye”, these animations appear real, even as the viewer becomes aware of the illusion.
Description Scenografi fritt tolkad ur den Amerikanska katastroffilmen Earthquake från 1974.
