About the artworkDer Perseidenschauer began with a fleeting encounter: Agnes Scherer and a friend glimpsed a mysterious light drifting above the Scottish marshes − a “will-o’-the-wisp”, a natural yet spectral glow that has long inspired myths of wandering and misdirection. In this work, that recollection appears as a painted and inscribed vision, suspended between narrative and image. At first glance, the work resembles an oversized laptop, its screen and keyboard propped upright like a devotional panel. But where we might expect symbols or letters, Scherer has replaced the keys with fragments of text; her own account of the encounter. The story unfolds across a hand-painted surface that fuses image and inscription, turning a familiar device into a site of reflection, storytelling, and self-portraiture.
