About the artworkThis tapestry is designed by Sigrid Hjertén and was acquired by Moderna Museet in 2021. This rug is in flossa, an ancient weaving technique that gives a short pile. It is believed to have been woven by Hjertén’s friend Alma Andreasson-Wenchert, who also weaved the lager rug Garden of Eden. The motifs, technique and colours of the two works tie them together. In the larger of the two, the central Adam and Eve motif is circled by swans and wavy patterns. In the smaller work, the swans are the main subject. The original intense colours have faded over the years.
