About the artworkMaria Lindström’s two works are about memory and life. In the first, the index cards are arranged according to procedural memory, linked to motor skills such as tying shoelaces or bicycling, which eventually become automatic; semantic memory, which concerns factual knowledge relating to, say, numbers and languages; and episodic memory, which preserves and recalls our experiences. The latter function is also the point of departure for the second work. A CTG (cardiotocography) curve of the kind used to monitor infants during childbirth is drawn across a sheet of paper. One centimetre corresponds to a minute. The time span shows both what has been and what may come, even if the latter does not exist in the course of this line.
