About the artworkAndreas Eriksson is fascinated by the inherent qualities of materials. How does a certain pigment react? A binding agent? Regardless of technique, painting is at the centre of his practice, as a recurring subject. During one period, Eriksson explored the canvas itself, using diluted paints and brushes with short, hard bristles, to bring out the texture of the woven linen fabric. From there, it was a short step to making his own tapestries together with skilled craftspeople. The woven works are a kind of translations from painting. Lidköping is a landscape, or a map in shades of grey-white. The threads are not dyed but the hues differ naturally depending on where the flax was grown. The biography of the linen is woven into the material.
