About the artworkA root, a string and a metal ring – marks and lines. In the three prints in the series Impressions, Jenny Olsson has pressed objects into a soft base of asphalt and lard that she has melted and applied to a plate. The series explores the gathering and documentation of a place by taking imprints from it. Olsson was inspired by the French philosopher Gaston Bachelard’s (1884–1962) ideas on how older theories are absorbed by new ideals, where individual concepts can take on different meanings. Based on these ideas, Olsson seeks to find new contexts for the meaning of, for instance, different colours in the works Earth, Air and Fire.
