About the artworkThe landscapes seem familiar and yet somehow unreal, with their foundered vessels and floating pavilions. In Nina Kerola’s scenes, old memories meet new spaces. She often revisits places she has been to before, some in Finland where she lived as a child. The visual construction has several stages. Kerola processes photographs digitally and sometimes repeats certain steps. New effects appear spontaneously, when the spaces in between become shapes and lines turn into patterns. The positive and negative surfaces, the blank white fields, the darker sections and the blackened lines need each other to explore and frame the spatialities together. The titles convey a longing for another world, where moods and dream situations are part of nature.
