About the artworkMaria Nordin explores how experiences can be expressed through the human body, and how physical experiences are culturally expressed. In Movement for 4:3, Nordin has created an animation with the premise of representing a movement relative to a specific format. The 4:3 aspect ratio is the old standard for television. Each picture frame in the animation is a watercolour. Nordin has also collected the 50 watercolours in a hand-bound book. The person in the image is dancing vogue, a style that arose in the USA in 1980s ballroom circles, as an expression of a subversive queer subculture, inspired and fuelled by the stylised poses in fashion magazines such as Vogue. With this book, the poses are returned to their original paper format.
