About the artworkIn this series, Ville Lenkkeri revisits his hometown Mänttä, where his father worked as a physician for more than three decades. In these images, we follow the traces left by this eccentric elderly gentleman in his practice and his other activities, building, chopping firewood, and moving things. The work, with the same title as the book from 2017, shows the green-blue metal filing cabinet where he kept his medical records. The four drawers are pulled out and crammed. On the wall behind the cabinet are collectible plates with views from different cities. The wall recurs in several other portraits of young and old patients. The series forms part of Lenkkeri’s project to recall his own childhood, but also to reflect on representation and how we can reconstruct our memories with the aid of photographs.
