About the artworkArrenda was a bus driver in London. One day in the late 1990s, Maj-Lis Andersen got on the bus she was driving. Their encounter led to Arrenda allowing herself to be portrayed at the depot where the bus was parked between shifts. In these staged photographs, Andersen expands the art format by getting Arrenda, who was interested in film and theatre, to act. Andersen creates powerful, melancholic images of a professional woman, conveying trust and a playful understanding between the artist and her subject. Andersen lived in London for 12 years. In the book of essays and photos Maj-Lis i London (2012), she describes her fascination for the city and its inhabitants.
