About the artworkStephen Gill moved with his family to a house on Österlen in 2014. After documenting environments and events set in the megacity of London for nearly two decades, he then returned to the subjects that once prompted him to take up photography as a child – his interest in collecting and examining creatures with a microscope. On his walks in the flat Scanian countryside, Gill soon discovered signs of life in the fields and groves. This inspired a project where he set up his camera in different places around the house at night. With a self timer and infrared flash, he captured the timid roe deer, wild boars and different birds. This resulted in a series of 84 photographs in a singular pale-yellow palette that Gill achieved through experiments in his studio.
