About the artworkKarolina Erlingsson’s works of art often focus on themes relating to time, place, body and memory. Along with ideas on narrative, translating and interpreting. In the sound installation Act, Erlingsson has translated a previous text-based work with the same title into tones heard from two loudspeakers. The voices communicate with each other using the ancient vocal technique of kulning, a way of singing that was historically used to round up free-grazing livestock, for instance around the fäbod hill farms, and to send messages across great distances. In Erlingsson’s subtle work, kulning becomes an echo with existential undertones:
