About the artworkIn Martina Müntzing’s realistic and meticulously painted portraits moments are frozen. Every image has a streak of melancholy. A sharp awareness of passing time and that every moment is forever and irretrievably over. At best, the memories remain. In The Last Snow, Müntzing and her family are each about to put the final touches to a snowman. Here, the snowmen, whose nature is highly transient, look more solid and enduring than their makers. Brought to life and immortalised in colour. The people, inversely, are drawn with thin, grey outlines. Transparent, as though they wouldn’t quite stick to the canvas.
