About the artworkThe acrylic flows like watercolour in Ragna Bley's painting that measure almost four metres in width. By using unprimed sailcloth, she gives the pigments the potential to bleed across the canvas. Bley sets the paint in motion and then monitors its expansion in the work - puddles form, shapes appear layer upon layer is added. The liquid finds its own inherent expression in the encounter with the canvas and surrounding pigments, as though it were a sentient creature. The colours and shapes alternate between artificial and organic, physical. The super-human formats mean that we can enter them with our gaze, like landscapes or unique microcosms for us to explore. Bley’s often poetic titles inform our viewing and open new associative paths.
