About the artworkOne of the Museum’s walls is stamped with the phrase AmericAmnesia in long lines, the words covering the entire surface. This is a statement that forms a pattern. By allowing the initial letters to overlap, Runo Lagomarsino both connects and dissolves them in one simple gesture. Many of the materials he chooses to work with refer to personal memories and political issues such as the history of colonialism. Language, geography and power are recurring themes. Lagomarsino once said, "Art has the power to influence our seeing and ourselves. It can narrate, astonish and alter." His works are often based on shapes that are scrutinised and confronted.
