- About the work
Nam June Paik developed a fascination early in life for visual composition and performance. T.V. Chair is an elegant synthesis of moving image and furniture. Nam June Paik’s art was spurred on by the anti-art movement and the political situation in the post-war period through to the 1970s, when electronic development was having an increasing impact on everyday life. Soon, he claimed, all artists would have their own TV channels or TV shows, and every home would have entire wall installations of monitors or projections. Nam June Paik himself participated in making TV programmes since he wanted to challenge the notion that only big corporations could make TV. He believed in the medium and envisioned that TV would one day serve as a broad electronic highway for all creative individuals.
