THE MUSEUM OF OUR WISHES
The exhibition The Museum of Our Wishes came about in winter 1963-64 on the initiative of the Friends of Moderna Museet. A large number of works considered to be essential to the museum’s collection were borrowed, and a miracle was achieved: Moderna Museet received a one-off grant of SEK 5 million from the Swedish government. Suddenly, the collection had grown to be one of the finest of its kind. The exhibition was pivotal to Moderna Museet’s further development. Works by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Max Ernst, Giacomo Balla, Giorgio de Chirico, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, Piet Mondrian and Pablo Picasso were thus added to the collection.
