About the artworkOn the ocean surface, currents move in many formations, drawing in a plethora of waste: PET bottles, nets or belongings that were thrown or blown into the sea. Now and then, some of the rubbish is flung out of the whirls and washed up on some beach. In Ellie Ga’s video installation, we see transparent colour photos on a lightbox. Some of the pictures are moved to another lightbox, swept away and replaced by new ones, in a rhythm reflecting the movements of ocean currents. The moves are accompanied by the artist’s voice talking about beachcombers, oceanography, migration, rituals, loss and resistance. It grows into an elegy for what we throw away and what inevitably resurfaces sooner or later.
