About the artworkRemoving a layered section of bill posters from a city wall, Lidén creates a contemporary archeological ‘dig’, revealing a slice of the history and culture of that place. She then pastes an empty white bill poster over the block of paper, blanking out the specifics of time and location. Combining a readymade with the formal qualities minimalist painting, and making an intervention 9nto public space via a removal, Lidén creates paintings that inhabit a space between popular and high culture, advertising and art, action and documentation. They constitute an everyday minimalism, blocking the endless stream of images and text that appear before our eyes, whilst also forming a more permanent archive of that which is usually temporary.
