About the artworkLee Lozano created series of drawings and paintings that were often of a crude, sexual and humorous nature. Her works are characterised by a clear-sighted view of the world, its commercialism and moral ambiguity. Lozano’s conceptual works may involve criticising social structures and agreements, manifested as boycotting galleries, arranging discussions in her studio or exploring her own painting under the influence of drugs. In this piece we are presented with Lozano’s satire on the classical advertising trick: “9 out of 10 dentists (or other experts) recommend…” in which she has replaced a particular product with a slogan for oral sex. The “advert” has been placed in the subway – the tiled wall may be seen in the drawing.
